Biomass is an important renewable energy source and can be used as feedstock for the sustainable production of clean fuels and chemicals. The direct conversion of biomass, such as gasification or pyrolysis, is difficult to get high value products and has lower conversion efficiency. Recently, innovative biorefinery process based on biomass components (lignin, cellulose, and semicellulose) separation has been paid more attentions. High value chemicals production process based on biomass components separation showed more technical and economic feasibility in renewable chemicals and materials production. We developed the selective separation of biomass components by green ionic liquids/solvent, as well as the sequential chemical production processes for high value chemicals production, such as phenolic compounds, hydroxymethyl furfural, cellulose based magnetic microspheres, adhesive, and carbon fibers.
